American Eagle Airlines New Service Will Connect Northwest Arkansas and Washington, D.C.

American Eagle, the regional affiliate of American Airlines, will add nonstop service between Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport (XNA) and Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), beginning Sept. 5.

American Eagle will operate round-trip service between the two cities using 37-seat Embraer ERJ-135 jets.

"American Eagle was the first scheduled airline to commit to serve the new Northwest Arkansas Airport more than eight years ago. We have offered high-frequency schedules with modern aircraft from the day XNA opened," said American Eagle President and CEO Peter Bowler. "Eagle was also the first airline to give Northwest Arkansas its nonstop access to New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and now this new route will provide nonstop service to our nation's Capital. We believe in the dynamic economy of Northwest Arkansas and are very grateful for the support we have received."

"The development of Northwest Arkansas has been amazing to watch, as it has grown into an important hub for the country's business sector and higher education community," said Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.). "I applaud the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport and American Eagle Airlines for working together to provide convenient transportation to those traveling between Washington and our state."

"This additional flight to XNA is welcome news for residents and business in Northwest Arkansas," Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) said. "Service to and from the nation's Capital will contribute to the hub of economic development in the state, and will likewise benefit American Eagle for its selection."

"I am very pleased about the new connection to Washington, D.C.," said Rep. John Boozman (R-Ark.). "The growing nonstop service out of Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport is needed because of the tremendous growth in the 3rd District, but it also highlights the great leadership at XNA and their ability to turn vision into reality."

Including the schedule additions that begin Sept. 5, American, American Eagle and AmericanConnection will operate 24 daily departures from XNA to seven destinations.

"American continues to be an excellent partner," said Kelly Johnson, Airport Director at Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport. "Through this partnership, Northwest Arkansas travelers will be able to connect to any destination in the world that American flies. We very much appreciate American's commitment to our community."

"We are very pleased with the travel opportunities that the new American Airlines direct flight from XNA to Washington D.C. will bring to the residents of Northwest Arkansas," according to Duane Futch, Director of Global Travel Services, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. "The new flight will bring more efficiency and opportunity for business travelers going to and from Washington, D.C."
