American Eagle Airlines Begins Service Between Chicago O'Hare and Gulfport, Miss.

American Eagle, the regional affiliate of American Airlines, today began nonstop service between Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport (GPT).

American Eagle will operate the service with 44-seat Embraer ERJ-140 jets. American Eagle already has three daily round trips between Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.

Later today, the City of Gulfport, The Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, and American Eagle Airlines will host a reception at The Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Miss., honoring several organizations from the Chicago area that volunteered to help in the rebuilding process after Hurricane Katrina. Representatives from The Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Naperville Responds, Lutheran Disaster Response, and Rotary District 6450 flew on the first flight from Chicago to Gulfport today to attend the reception.

"We have been expanding our Gulf Coast service over the past year," said Peter Bowler, President and CEO of American Eagle Airlines. "It is exciting to see the growth return in this area after Katrina. We are also honored to be able to provide transportation today to those organizations from Chicago that helped rebuild the region."

"This commitment by American Eagle is another indication of the extraordinary recovery we're witnessing in Biloxi and on the Mississippi Gulf Coast," said Biloxi Mayor A.J. Holloway. "It's also very fitting that American Eagle is using this opportunity to recognize some of the many Chicago-area volunteers who have played such an important role in our comeback."

"American Eagle was the first carrier to bring new service into Gulfport-Biloxi after Hurricane Katrina, and the addition of service to Chicago further demonstrates their commitment to help rebuild the Mississippi Gulf Coast bigger and better than ever," said Airport Authority Chairman, Frank Genzer, AIA.

"Jet service is key to rebuilding the destination," said George P. Corchis, President and Chief Operating Officer of MGM MIRAGE Mississippi resorts, which includes Beau Rivage in Biloxi and Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica, Miss. "The addition of American Eagle's new daily nonstop jet service between Chicago O'Hare and the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport will have a significant impact on growth and improving access to the Mississippi Gulf Coast."
