American Airlines to Operate Additional Service to Colombia
American Airlines announced today an increase in its service to Colombia, South America, effective Dec. 13, 2007, when it adds 14 roundtrips per week to its existing service between its Miami hub and Colombia.
The service additions include new daily -- seven times a week -- service between Miami and Barranquilla featuring American's 148-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 16 seats in the First Class cabin and 132 seats in the Coach cabin.
In addition to that new service, American will increase its existing service between Miami and Medellin. American's current daily service -- seven flights a week -- will increase by three additional weekly roundtrips. The three new flights between Miami and Medellin will operate on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. That service will also be flown with American's Boeing 737-800 planes.
Finally, American will further increase its extensive service, currently two roundtrips a day, between Miami and Bogota. American now flies the route with 219-seat Boeing 767-300 and 267-seat Airbus A300 aircraft. Four roundtrips a week will be added to the Miami-Bogota service using American's 188-seat Boeing 757 aircraft. Those additional flights will operate on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday southbound -- Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Monday northbound.
"American Airlines has a long history in Colombia, with 17 years of service as of this coming August," said Peter J. Dolara, American's Senior Vice President - Miami, Caribbean, Latin America. "American has shown its commitment to Colombia, its people and the development of its tourism industry. These are significant next steps as we continue to grow the Colombian market."
American will also continue to serve Cali with its daily service -- seven times a week, flown with Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
