American Airlines Cargo President Dave Brooks Receives Air Cargo Industry Award for Excellence
FORT WORTH, Texas, March 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- American Airlines Cargo division today announced that Dave Brooks, President of AA Cargo, has been honored with the 2011 Jim Foster Award for Excellence, given by the Airforwarders Association (AfA) at its annual AirCargo 2011 Conference in San Diego. The award is presented each year to a person who has made a significant impact on the air cargo industry. Brooks has headed American Airlines Cargo since 1996.
The AfA cited Brooks' leadership following the call from Congress for 100 percent screening of all U.S. outbound cargo on passenger carriers. Brooks began a two-year campaign to help freight forwarders and other supply chain stakeholders navigate the new regulations. In 2010, Brooks led an executive roundtable featuring panelists from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Airforwarders Association, Boeing and others to discuss the operational, security and financial implications of 100 percent screening for shippers and logistics providers.
"I am grateful to receive this award on behalf of the many tremendously dedicated individuals who made it possible to meet the demands of the 100 percent screening mandate," said Brooks. "Looking forward, I'm encouraged that we've been able to not only meet today's demands but have laid track for meeting tomorrow's challenges as well."
Likewise, Brooks has heeded the call for innovation at American Airlines Cargo, making AA Cargo the first airline in the United States to offer e-freight internationally an industry-wide initiative facilitated by the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) which seeks to involve the industry in paperless documentation and other electronic improvements.
According to Brandon Fried, Executive Director of the Airforwarders Association, "The Jim Foster Award for Excellence is given each year to an exceptional individual involved in the cargo industry." The award is named in honor of the late Jim Foster, who in 1990 co-founded the Airforwarders Association.
