More than 300 American employees volunteer with the Puppies in Flight program — a partnership between American and Assistance Dogs International. Through the program, puppies are transported to their destination where they are paired with their new companion or are delivered to the individual who will raise them to become an assistance dog.
Eighty employee volunteers helped more than 90 autistic and developmentally challenged children and their families experience the wonders and challenges of air travel through the Wings for Autism event in April. Hosted by American Airlines’ Abilities and Bridges Employee Business Resource Groups, the Arc of Arizona, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Southwest Airlines, the annual event helps give these families the chance to practice traveling.
