In late January, nearly 160 frequent flier enthusiasts, bloggers and news media participated in a week-long travel event called the “oneworld MegaDo
,” – a fantasy camp for those who love to fly. Participants traveled across the world to get a first-hand, inside look at the oneworld network, American Airlines and the AAdvantage loyalty program. The group also had the rare opportunity to participate in behind-the-scenes activities with American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Japan Airlines, Qantas, Hyatt Hotels and Boeing.
MilePoint, an online discussion forum for frequent fliers, hosted the MegaDo event with the support of American Airlines. During the event, MilePoint founder Randy Petersen – who shares American’s passion in the fight against breast cancer – asked participants to Fly for the Cure and donate through various, and often impromptu, auctions and raffles. In all, the MegaDo participants raised $50,000 for the cause.
On March 16, Randy Petersen presented the $50,000 check – in the name of both MilePoint and the American Airlines AAdvantage program – to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. All money raised goes to the American Airlines breast cancer research grant at M D Anderson’s Morgan Welch Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Program and Clinic in Houston, Texas.
We invite you to join us in the fight against breast cancer. If your plans call for travel, you can pre-purchase your trip with an American Airlines co-branded Komen virtual gift card
. For every $50 of travel purchased, American will donate $5 to Komen. You can also make a cash donation through American’s Miles for the Cure®
fundraising program, which rewards you with 10 AAdvantage miles for every dollar donated.
