“Day of Thanks” activities focused on recognizing American’s employee dedication and providing additional opportunities to honor service members and veterans. A group of employees from across American’s workgroups and markets traveled to the nation’s capital for a day that included a special presentation ceremony as well as visits to Walter Reed National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., and other memorials in Washington, D.C.
In addition, American’s Veteran Military Employee Resource Group (VMERG) chapters led donation drives to collect items needed by local military and Veterans Affairs hospitals. Donated clothing, reading materials and toiletries helped extend the day’s spirit of giving to the heroes who have sacrificed so much for this country.
Since the partnership with ACV began in 2010, approximately 2,700 flights have been provided on American and American Eagle airlines from the nearly $1.5 million contributed via Fuel Smart, which identifies, evaluates and implements ideas that safely reduce the company’s fuel consumption.
