Hurricane Isaac has caused devastating flooding and wind damage now in communities from Florida to Texas. The Red Cross continues an immense disaster response effort that could last for weeks across multiple states, as the slow-moving Tropical Storm Isaac (no longer a Hurricane) hammers down. Isaac is expected to continue its march inland, threatening communities farther to the north that have yet to experience the impact of the storm.
For every Natural Disaster that occurs on U.S. soil, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) responds immediately. The primary purpose of FEMA is to coordinate the response to a disaster that overwhelms the resources of local and state authorities. FEMA is made up of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard.
