No two spas are created equal. This is evidenced more than ever in this year’s top U.S. and international spas chosen by you, the spa-goers. No matter what your reason for visiting a spa, these pampering places have what you seek.
Club Essentia Wellness Retreat
This past February, the beloved Agua Spa at Delano was transformed into the 3,500-square-foot Club Essentia Wellness Retreat, an airy rooftop spa complete with views of the ocean.
The indoor–outdoor spa features eight treatment rooms and an olive green outdoor lounge with teak chaise lounges.
You can still expect oxygen facials and even cosmetic treatments like peels, but the spa also now administers vitamin-rich IV drips to combat everything from fatigue to dry skin to this morning’s hangover.
You’re in South Beach, after all.
Ranch at Live Oak
This 16-cottage boot-camp retreat, tucked away in the Santa Monica Mountains above the Pacific Ocean, sets a new standard for wellness and weight loss-oriented camps by introducing a farm-to-table culinary school. The hands-on program means you’ll learn the fundamentals of vegetarian cooking, new techniques, knife skills, menu planning, and presentation alongside executive chef and nutritional alchemist Rob Dalzell. Of course, the ingredients for the 18 dishes you’ll master are all sourced from the on-site organic garden.
Hualalai Spa at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai
Choose your own treatment ingredients — among them are shredded coconut, crushed macadamia nuts, lavender, and Hawaiian spirulina, a blue-green microalgae — at the Four Seasons Hualalai’s spa apothecary, which was inspired by knowledge of the island from Hawaiian elders. Of the 40 natural ingredients offered, half are sourced from the Big Island itself, including the coffee that’s used in the recently introduced Coffee Mocha Scrub, which blends coffee-infused salt, cacao nibs, dried hibiscus flowers, and cocoa butter into an invigorating exfoliant.
Introduced in November 2012 and January 2013, respectively, Mii Amo’s Spirit of the New Moon and Spirit of the Full Moon treatments aim to harness the lunar energy of the new- and full-moon phases. Thus, these two treatments are offered exclusively on days around that respective moon each month; the New Moon treatment begins with a ritual foot bath, followed by a full-body geranium and pine oil massage to open energy, and finished with a scalp massage and opening of the third eye.
