Travaasa Hana reveals true and authentic Hawaiian relaxation.

Having met many years ago in beautiful Hawaii, we have always felt the aloha spirit. In fact, 2012 was the year of our 25th wedding anniversary. But when the islands beckoned to us for a new and different experience, we found that we were wonderfully transported back to the same “Old Hawaii” we once knew, a Hawaii with only the ocean breeze to keep us cool, tropical surroundings to soothe us, and a sense of adventure that only the true Hawaii gave us. Travassa Hana, the Maui Spa Resort & Hotel in Hana, Maui, was that experience.

Seventy guest rooms were spread over 70 lush, tropical acres. Garden View Suites were closest to the spa, while Sea Ranch Cottages looked out over the Pacific Ocean. This was a world away from televisions, meetings, news, budgeting, and conference calls. The five experience pillars for the Travaasa concept included Adventure, Culinary, Culture, Fitness, and Spa & Wellness — and the resort delivered on all five.

Resort activities spanned early morning yoga under an ancient monkeypod tree, a biking exploration of Hana, and Hawaiian cultural offerings such as lei making and ukulele lessons. Many on staff have been there for more than 10 years, and resort personnel freely shared their knowledge and expertise in a true sense of aloha.

The all-inclusive package was liberating and included a spa credit for soul soothing and revitalizing. The Spa at Travaasa Hana was unrivaled as a place where time seemed to slow and rejuvenation began. The spa guide called it “a deeply relaxing sanctuary of peace and tranquility enhanced by Hana’s natural tropical beauty.” Seven different massage therapies, five body therapies, and eight styles of facials made the spa menu quite appealing.

Decadence took on a whole new meaning during our Lomilomi couples massage, during which we were transported to a stress-free place far away. Those long, flowing, rhythmic strokes using forearm and elbow just squished the tensions away. For our facials, the spa used Amala products made from organic, fair-trade botanicals, which possessed an earthy aroma with hints of cocoa, ginger, cinnamon, and other natural, alluring scents. We left the spa on a cloud, beaming with faces fresh, rejuvenated, and alive.

Not to be outdone by the spa, the Ka’uiki Restaurant and Paniolo Lounge offered epicurean cuisine plus lively local music. The Chef Sampler included lump crab cake with pinot grigio, caprese salad, and a chardonnay; Maui Cattle Company filet mignon washed down with cabernet; and chocolate decadence served with port.

Travaasa was so peaceful, soul restoring, and removed from the everyday that we didn’t want to leave. Whether you stay one day or several, you will leave renewed, refreshed, and invigorated. Travaasa and Hana will have left their mark, and you’ll feel younger in mind and body.

Inclusive rate starts at $575 per person per night based on double occupancy.
