"Carafe No. 5" by Etienne Meneau

Anyone who has seen the movie Bottle Shock knows the story of the little-known Napa vineyard that, in 1976, gave instant credibility to the Northern California wine industry by winning a blind taste test among the greatest French blends. Now that often-repeated test known as “Judgment of Paris” is the centerpiece of HOW WINE BECAME MODERN: DESIGN + WINE 1976 TO NOW, on exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art from November 20 to April 17, 2011. The exhibit explores the culture of wine through modern times, including the expansion of the industry to countries outside Europe and the growing accessibility and marketing of fine vintages throughout the world.
