Planning your next vacation? A variety of new hotels have opened that are guaranteed to make your stay that much sweeter. So whether you’re looking for a luxe mountain getaway, a beach oasis, or a big-city charmer, it’s all here.
Lap of Luxury
The swank seaside town of Newport, Rhode Island, welcomes another luxury hotel, the Chanler (www.thechanler.com), located in an 1865 mansion on Cliff Walk. The 20 rooms feature four-poster beds, crystal chandeliers, and French doors, and the hotel’s eatery, Spiced Pear, serves dishes like seared foie gras and Maine lobster.
It joins another posh mansion hotel, the 222-room Hotel Viking (www.hotelviking.com), which boasts an Asian-inspired spa (try the Balinese massage).
Your Own Private Lagoon
The Intercontinental Resort & Thalasso Spa Bora Bora (www.boraboraspa.intercontinental.com) in French Polynesia opens this summer on the private islet of Motu Piti Aau in Bora Bora’s spectacular lagoon. There will be 80 over-the-water bungalows with king-size beds and outdoor showers (some have views of Mount Otemanu). In the spa, enjoy water-based treatments such as mineral-mud soaks, aromatherapy baths, and seaweed wraps.
That Canadian Charm
Quebec City is adding another hip new boutique property — the Hotel 71 (www.hotel71.ca) — to its roster. Housed in a former bank in the historic Vieux-Port (Old Port), Hotel 71’s 40 rooms feature platform beds, natural wood floors, and deep red, modern artwork. There’s also a stylish café where you can enjoy a cappuccino after exploring Old Quebec.
Two hours from Vancouver, in the resort town of Whistler (where the skiing, even in March, is stellar), is the new Adara (www.adarahotel.com). This stylish inn, steps away from the Blackcomb and Whistler gondolas, has 41 rooms with design elements such as electric fireplaces built into custom-made cabinets, dark wood furnishings, and sheepskin throws.
