As the 75th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s birth draws to an end, what better way to honor the King than to head to Las Vegas for a Cirque du Soleil show dedicated to all things Elvis? (Trust us, if anyone can gyrate like he did, it’s a Cirque performer.) Oh, and did we mention there’s a free trip involved?
In honor of Elvis Presley’s 75th birthday this year, Legacy Recordings has released an album that reinterprets some of the most popular and much-loved iconic songs of the King’s remarkable career. Viva Elvis: The Album, inspired by the Viva Elvis Cirque du Soleil show that premiered in February at Aria Resort & Casino at Vegas’ CityCenter — the neon town’s newest adult playland — incorporates ragga, punk and hip-hop elements into classic Elvis songs, including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Heartbreak Hotel” and, of course, “Love Me Tender.” Produced and arranged by Erich Van Tourneau, who is also the creative force behind the music of the Cirque du Soleil show, the album contains 12 tracks in all. But if that’s not enough to satisfy your appetite for the King, then we suggest you pack your bags and head to Vegas: The show boasts a whopping 30 Elvis songs, not to mention a live band and mesmerizing acrobatics. www.vivaelvis.com
