No offense to Santa Claus, but at American Airlines, we believe that you should visit the people you care about more than once a year. Of course, we’re biased by the fact that we’re in the business of bringing people together. This year alone, we will help well over 100 million people — in hundreds of cities and in dozens of countries around the world — connect with family, friends, loved ones, and business associates.

With the holidays upon us, I’m reminded that one of the great blessings of our business is that simply by showing up and doing our jobs, we promote understanding, tolerance, and peace. In fact, I believe that by facilitating productive interactions between cultures and people, we are helping to inch the world closer to the ideal, which is so frequently expressed at this time of year, of “peace on earth, good will toward men.”

The holiday season is a wonderful time of year, but there’s no denying that it can be a hectic and often stressful time too. With that in mind, I want to take a moment to acknowledge and thank all my colleagues who are working on or around the holidays. One of the sacrifices our people make in order to do the work they love is spending time away from family and friends so that you and your fellow travelers can spend time with your loved ones. I am sure you appreciate their efforts as much as I do.

I also want to remind you, since this is the season of giving, that those of you who are members of our AAdvantage program have numerous opportunities to use your miles to support good causes, and, in particular, to help children in need of assistance. Since 1989, members of our AAdvantage program have, through our Miles for Kids in Need program, opened their hearts and their AAdvantage accounts to provide transportation for children from needy families who require medical treatment that’s not available where they live.

AAdvantage members are also stepping up to help children in need by donating unused miles to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the world’s largest wish-granting organization. Every day, somewhere in the world, the Make-A-Wish Foundation is making a wish come true for a child in need. And, needless to say, we’re very proud of the role our AAdvantage members play in helping make that happen.

These two programs are but a small subset of the many ways AAdvantage miles are being converted into good works. If you would like to donate or to just learn more, please visit www.aa.com/aadvantage or call AAdvantage Customer Service at (800) 421-0600.

As we bid farewell to 2007, I want to thank you, on behalf of everyone at American Airlines, for flying with us this year. Your support means the world to us, and you can rest assured that we’ll be working hard to earn your business in 2008 and beyond.

Have a great trip, and happy holidays to you and yours. See you next year!
