Your vacation is over, and now the work begins: organizing and sharing all the photographs you took. Luckily, Apple’s new iPHOTO APP makes this easier than ever, allowing you to edit and catalog your pictures as you transform them into distinct keepsakes ready to be sent to friends and family via your iPhone, iPod touch, iPad or Mac. As with all things Apple, the app is user-friendly, and it gives you the power to do what photo editors do. With simple swipes and taps, you can crop and rotate, pinch and straighten, adjust color and contrast, customize with captions or brush up the images with dozens of eye-catching special effects. You can see what a photo would look like as, say, a watercolor, intensify the blue of a bright-blue sky or add sepia tones for a vintage touch. Cataloging your collection is a cinch too. Nifty management tools let you mark any photo with a flag or as a favorite and organize every image by date, subject or theme.

But what’s the point of all this editing and enhancing if you can’t easily share your photos in all their splendor? With iPhoto journals, you can turn your favorite shots into digital scrapbooks, replete with videos and maps with special keys marking your most memorable meals or the weather you experienced along the way. Upload your journal to the iCloud and email a link to friends and family for the ultimate vacation-album sharing.

There’s also the new Cards app, which lets you turn your photos into personalized cards and send them to any address in the world no matter where you are — even as you’re on the airplane heading home (or possibly still at the beach).
