Each year for the last three years, we have dedicated one issue to music. But this year, we decided to expand that idea and focus on entertainment of all kinds. So instead of just offering cool news and stories about all things musical, we’ve included cool news and stories about television, movies, books, and  music. That way, we figure, there’s something for everyone. I think you’ll enjoy it. In this column, I’m going to attempt to tie entertainment to a special cause that will be celebrated next month. I admit it’s a bit of a stretch, but here goes.

Click here for a piece about some very special concerts from Hard Rock that will benefit the fight against breast cancer. The Pinktober events will feature performers playing all over the world, and a percentage of the ticket prices will go to support finding the cure.

Another event, one that’s especially close to my heart, is one that American Airlines puts on each year: Celebrity Golf and Tennis. This year’s event will take place October 9 to 12 at the Four Seasons Resort Aviara and the Del Mar Country Club.

The sheer number of activities packed into this weekend is really hard to fathom. Obviously, golf and tennis will be the mainstays, and you’ll get to hang out with celebrities (who will play alongside you) every day as you enjoy the beautiful facilities.

If you feel your game is not quite as good as you’d like it to be, you can improve your skills at one of the clinics, which are taught by some of the world’s greatest players.

On Thursday night, there will be a fabulous concert by the American Airlines All-Star Band, featuring former members of fantastic groups such as Santana and Loverboy playing many oh-so-danceable songs.

On Friday night will be yet another concert -- by a soon-to-be-announced performer -- and this one always draws a crowd.

Then on Saturday night, there’ll be a live auction with sporting-event tickets, fabulous vacation packages, TV events and premieres, and lots more. There will also be a silent auction with sports memorabilia, beautiful jewelry, great wines, and many more items you’ll want to bid on. You’ll just need to remember to stop bidding long enough to get out there and swing your club or racket!

All of this (along with airfare, accommodations, meals, and a magnificent gift that is more than just a goody bag) is included in the price of admission.

So there you have it: two events that offer two forms of awesome entertainment (music and sports are absolutely entertainment, right?), and the proceeds of each will go toward helping find a cure for breast cancer. That’s what getting your money’s worth is all about.

If I were you, I wouldn’t put off signing up for these events, as space is limited, and they will no doubt sell out.

So about that tie-in -- how did I do?
