Fans of the CW hit The Vampire Diaries have no doubt set their DVRs for The Originals, a new spinoff series that sees baddie bloodsucker Klaus head to New Orleans to reclaim the city he helped found. There, he runs into party-boy protégé Marcel — played by Charles Michael Davis — the man who rules modern-day NOLA, where the show is also filmed.

“There’s nothing like shooting in New Orleans,” Davis says. “It’s full of surprises and flavors. People are having a good time any time of the day or night.”

Davis shares with American Way his Big Easy musts.

Blue Nile
532 Frenchmen St.
(504) 948-2583
“The Blue Nile is this throwback of a music club where all the greats have played. We caught the Brass-A-Holics there — I think they play there regularly — then just went down Frenchmen Street.”

430 Dauphine St.
(504) 525-4455
“About seven or eight of us went out for a little family dinner at Bayona, and it was just beautiful. I ordered the lamb, and then I tried the veal sweetbreads. I didn’t realize what it was at the time, but it was delicious!”

Café Du Monde
Multiple locations
“You have to go to Café Du Monde for the beignets. It’s an institution. I went there for lunch, and I ended up eating, like, six beignets. There was powdered sugar everywhere, so I went to the river and cleaned myself up.”

Lafayette Cemetery No. 1

“It has such a New Orleans vibe. One of my cast mates, Daniella Pineda, swears she picked up a ghost while she was there.” —S.C.
