Sure, we all love and adore Texas’ Austin City Limits Music Festival, but, let’s admit it, between the September heat, the dazzling household-name headliners (Coldplay and Kanye West, anyone?) and the mind-bogglingly massive hordes of people who attend (70,000-plus daily), it can be more than a little daunting. Which is why we love Fun Fun Fun Fest. Founded six years ago by Graham Williams as a one-day festival featuring bands like Spoon, FFFFest has now grown into its own as a three-day slow jam — minus 50,000 or so attendees — dedicated to offering the best of the best in underground music (from Hum, M83 and Girls to Danzig, Slayer and Thee Oh Sees) as well as comedy (Upright Citizens Brigade Tour Company, Reggie Watts). Add in that it takes place Nov. 4 to 6 (meaning you won’t be sitting in a pool of your own sweat for three days a la ACL) and that it’s held at Auditorium Shores with a perfect view of downtown Austin and Town Lake in the background, and, really, what are you waiting for?
