As Renaissance festivals go, our favorite is about 50 miles south of DFW International Airport. From now until May 30, sleepy Waxahachie, Texas, transforms into medieval England for its annual Scarborough Renaissance Festival. More than 200,000 people will watch shows, buy trinkets and sample cuisines from 200-plus shops on the 35-acre campus. “People are comfortable and at home at Scarborough,” says marketing director Orvis Melvin of the fair, now in its 31st season. “Once a guest steps through our gates, time seems to slow down and arguments just don’t seem as important.”
