They say you can’t go home again, but five years ago, Anna Gunn got a call that betrayed the old adage. A native of Santa Fe, N.M., Gunn was being offered the part of Skyler White, wife of high-school chemistry teacher turned drug lord Walter White, on AMC’s critically heralded Breaking Bad, which just so happens to film in Albuquerque, an hour south of her hometown. Since returning to the area, Gunn has played unofficial tour guide to cast and crew, offering up the region’s best treasures, including a few of her favorite Santa Fe restaurants, which she shares with us below. Unfortunately for us, she was more tight-lipped about Breaking Bad’s fifth season, which premiered last month. “People will be blown away,” she teases. “Skyler’s gone off the deep end in some ways. You’ll see.”

Cafe Pasqual’s
www.pasquals.com
“Pasqual’s has been there forever, and it’s one of the best restaurants in Santa Fe. When I was in high school and trying to be cool, I’d meet a friend there for breakfast and we’d sit there drinking coffee.”

Josie’s Casa de Comida
(505) 983-5311
“Josie makes the best New Mexican food I’ve ever had. She has a restaurant called Josie’s Casa de Comida, but she doesn’t open to the public anymore. So you call her and place your order and then pull up behind the restaurant, where she still cooks every day, and she brings the food to your car. Get the chicken enchiladas and the apricot pie.”

“Very mellow, very classy, very old-fashioned. Very Santa Fe.”
