They were sports fans before they were fashionistas, so it’s only fitting that Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos, the clothing designers behind Shipley & Halmos, have launched a new line of athletic wear, S&H ATHLETICS. The just-released collection pays homage to the sports that the business partners followed and played as kids, with a distinctively vintage spin. Each item in the 25-piece line — which ranges from dyed T-shirts and cotton rugbies to striped socks and varsity sweaters — draws inspiration from classic attire from the 1950s and ’60s. Color schemes are retro, leaning on the blues and crimsons that infused the sporting scene in the mid-1900s. But the throwback look is balanced by contemporary touches — including cheeky messages that reflect the whimsical sense of humor for which the S&H brand is known, stitched at random into the garments. And though the name puts rightful emphasis on “athletics,” the collection itself suits all kinds of casual occasions — not just encounters on the playing fields. $50 to $298,
