Business School
Education: MBA, Andrews University; PhD, international

Shtick: Identifying "core competencies" and attaining
"stretch goals" leads to success.
Bio: Like many leading management gurus, Hamel distinguished
himself through a series of highly respected Harvard Business
Review articles in the 1980s. "It's my thinking that if you want to
emerge from the pack, it's essential to have your own point of view
and be a bit of a contrarian," Hamel says. Another of his core
messages is that companies are a portfolio of competencies, and
that it is essential to have a "strategy architect" to spur
innovation and manage people and business processes. Hamel has
keynoted the Microsoft CEO Summit, the World Economic Forum, and
the Fortune 500 CEO Roundtable. Despite trumpeting dot-bomb Enron,
Hamel's star power hasn't faded.
