The 85TH PGA CHAMPIONSHIP
returns to the venerable East Course of Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York, August 11-17, for the first time since 1980, when Jack Nicklaus won his record-tying (with Walter Hagen) fifth win of the Wanamaker Trophy.
Rich Beem (pictured right) won his first major at last year’s PGA Championship, and the tournament has become something of a launching pad for emerging stars: 12 of the last 15 winners have been first-time major victors (John Daly in 1991, Davis Love III in 1997, and David Toms in 2001). For golfers seeking and failing to win that first major here, it’s a long wait until next April’s Masters.
TNT will televise six hours of coverage on Thursday and Friday, 1-7 p.m. (all times EDT), as well as early coverage from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. CBS will pick up weekend afternoon coverage, from 2-7 p.m. each day. A Web-site walk of the course, along with other features, is at www.pga2003.com
