Despite what the marketing people told you, this year — this month — starts the new millennium. Welcome to it. And what more early-21st-century thing could you do for entertainment than sit right back down on the couch and watch some TV?
At least be choosy about it. Look to HBO, for example, for a new run of episodes of its highly rated prison drama OZ. The one to watch here is actor Christopher Meloni, who you’ll recognize from NBC’s Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. This show isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET.
Feel up for another challenging watch from those premium channels? Showtime has started its American version of a British hit. QUEER AS FOLK is set in Pittsburgh (the English version takes place in Manchester), and it’s a look at modern gay life without a lot of the campy buffers we usually see around depictions of homo- sexuality. Hal Sparks stars in this series as Michael — one guy in a triangle that eventually includes a baby.
Catch you on the flip side.
