Hometown: Vista, California

VOCATION: Full-time computer work for Mercedes-Benz.
AVOCATIONS: Paragliding, hang gliding, and motorcycling.
LAST YEAR’S ITINERARY: Logged 250 hours of fly time (mainly paragliding and some hang gliding) off the cliffs of San Diego’s Torrey Pines Gliderport.
WHAT’S NEXT: A long ride in the San Luis Rey Valley on my Ducati Supersport, a 75th-birthday present to myself.
PROUDEST MOMENT: Being awarded the national championship for sand drags and hill climbs on a dune buggy that I designed and built with my son.
TOUGHEST PHYSICAL/HEALTH HURDLE I’VE FACED SO FAR: Having both hips replaced with titanium ones with ceramic bearings. But now I feel like a 50-year-old again.
WHAT I’VE GIVEN UP: I discovered that trimming the trees in my yard was a contact sport when a loose branch fell on my shoulder last spring. No more.
WHAT I’LL NEVER GIVE UP: Having dessert first; otherwise, you run out of room.
PERFECT DAY: See “What’s next?”
MOST EXHILARATING EXPERIENCE: Gently whisking above the Pacific Ocean and the cliffs of Torrey Pines in a paraglider with a raven barrel-rolling clownishly about 10 feet away from me. Once in a while, I’ll get a red-tailed hawk soaring in the thermals with me.
BEST PIECE OF ADVICE FOR GETTING THE MOST OUT OF LIFE: Don’t search for some mysterious life secret. Just keep going, have an open mind, and focus on the glass half full.
LIFE PHILOSOPHY: Attitude has everything to do with everything -- period.
