Ready for the time of your life? Then head to western North Carolina’s Lake Lure Aug. 17–19 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the coming-of-age flick Dirty Dancing. The annual Dirty Dancing Festival at lake lure began in 2010 after the passing of star Patrick Swayze — who played bad-boy hunk Johnny Castle — brought renewed interest in the movie, which was largely filmed in the area. Visit various film sites around town, re-enact Jennifer Grey’s watermelon-carrying scene for photo ops and try your balance in the lake-lift competition. There’s even a daytime dance festival where you can showcase your hottest moves. www.dirtydancingfestival.com
