The next afternoon we found ourselves under the trees at Restaurante Sur, an Argentinian steakhouse. Our waiter, Capi, suggested many wonderful wine pairings as we sampled different items, including angus tenderloin and sesame crusted tuna. As if the dulce de leche crème brûlée were not enough, we wandered across Constituyentes Avenue to Ah Cacao Chocolate Café. Here a true chocoholic can eat it, drink it, grind it and even bathe in it — a chocolate lover’s delight.

For our last evening and dinner in Playa, we enjoyed a nice quiet dinner at Lateral Seafood & Steak, sitting streetside, sipping on kiwi margaritas while we savored the duck confit pita served with garlic chipotle aioli and sweet onion compote.

The next morning we packed our bags before heading down to the pristine beach one more time to say our goodbyes to this paradise. We snapped our last few pictures of the pelicans as they relaxed on the fishing boats. As Michael and I took our final walk on the beach before we headed back to the airport, I realized that there are few places in the world that can make a person’s mind, body and soul truly happy, if they let it. Playa del Carmen is one of those places.
