A practically indestructible bag is a dream come true for avid travelers, but these bags spring from a rather unexpected source. Atlanta-based Gorilla Sacks rescues durable (and nondegradable) billboard vinyls before they make it to landfills and handcrafts them into funky messenger bags, grocery sacks, laptop sleeves, Kindle cases and backpacks. No two designs are alike, and they’re inspired by ads for notable brands such as SunTrust and Whole Foods Market. The company got its curious name because founder Lisa Zawacki has a soft spot for endangered gorillas — and it donates 10 percent of each sale to wildlife organizations. www.gorillasacks.com
