By Margaret Robison (Spiegel & Grau, $26)

Augusten Burroughs and John Elder Robison introduced us to their less-than-perfect mother, Margaret, in their respective memoirs, Running with Scissors and Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger’s. Now she has stepped forward with her own story, which doesn’t excuse her bad behaviors but shines a light on her harsh childhood, expanding readers’ understanding of her life. At times hard to read, yet beautifully written, Robison makes it clear that good writing runs in the family.
