Turndown service is nice, but sometimes we want more from our hotel: Travaasa Destinations is a new type of experiential lodging that invites guests to encounter a region’s distinct cultural and natural offerings while also tailoring a stay that fits each person’s individual style. And though each program is customized, five core elements are found at every property — adventure, culinary, culture, fitness and spa.
Travaasa Austin opened in April in the Texas Hill Country, about a 30-minute drive from the capital city. Along with wooded vistas and luxurious spa services, the property boasts 70 guest rooms (some with flat screens, others with yoga mats and stretching ropes) within seven buildings, and a customizable selection of activities that reflect Austin’s laid-back vibe and Western roots. Learn to cook Texas-style, listen to cowboy poetry while relaxing around a fire, or simply sit back with a glass of organic wine and a good book.
In Hawaii, Tra-vaasa Hana opens this month along Maui’s eastern shoreline and offers both sea-ranch cottages (similar to the area’s plantation-like homes) and bungalow-style garden suites, as well as activities highlighting Hawaiian flavor, like lei making and surfing.
Look for other openings in the Southwest as well as in several desert, mountain and rainforest locales abroad during coming months. From $480 per night/per person, including all activities, meals, snacks and accommodations.
