The Majestic stars Jim Carrey as a screenwriter who loses his job and his identity during the 1950’s blacklist, then goes on to rediscover his passions and convictions. Directed and produced by Academy Award nominee Frank Darabont (The Green Mile), the film could garner Carrey the Oscar nomination he has deserved since The Truman Show.
Last year’s Oscar winner Russell Crowe stars in A Beautiful Mind, which is based on the life of John Forbes Nash Jr., a mathematical genius who suffered through personal tragedy to finally win the Nobel Prize. Also starring Ed Harris and Jennifer Connelly, this harrowing film is directed by Ron Howard, who poignantly depicts the life of a man who has everything to lose — and very nearly does.
For a comedic break, see The Royal Tenenbaums, the brainchild of Owen Wilson (Zoolander). Royal Tenenbaum (Gene Hackman) and his wife Etheline (Anjelica Huston) have three children: Chas (Ben Stiller) started buying real estate in his early teens and was an international finance whiz; in ninth grade, Margot (Gwyneth Paltrow) was recognized as a budding playwright; and Richie (Luke Wilson) thrice won the U.S. Tennis Nationals. Two decades of enormous failure and separation precede a hilarious reunion.
