Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten Years Later
By Francine Pascal
(St. Martin’s Press, $22)
The publishing world first met Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield, fictional size-6 twins with sun-streaked blond hair, in 1983. Over the course of 20 years and more than 150 books, the popular and prolific Sweet Valley High series (and several spinoff series) became a young-adult staple. Sweet Valley Confidential catches its now-adult readership up on the drama that’s unfolded since graduation, as the all-grown-up protagonists have drifted apart, with Elizabeth fleeing California after Jessica stole her one true love. Melodramatic? Absolutely. But in our Gossip Girl–hungry culture, it’s a delicious revamp.
