Just in time for the holidays, when the kids are home and the workload is lighter, these two DVDs make for great family bonding.

DreamWorks’ Shrek, one of the year’s highest grossing films to date, makes its debut November 2. The two-disc set contains 11 hours of added material with the usual audio commentary and behind-the-scenes features that have become synonymous with DVDs, plus 17 DVD-ROM games — including one where, using a first-ever DVD-ROM technology, players dub their voices over those of the characters. Even if you caught it while it was in the theater, the added bonuses here make this well worth purchasing.

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, starring Jim Carrey as the furry Grinch, is a perfect way to get into the holiday spirit. Due out on November 20, this DVD includes pluses, outtakes, sing-alongs, and read-alongs — all perfect for some good old-fashioned family fun.
