Hotel Biba Raises the Bar

Motels convenienced overnighters, never especially enticed them. Until Hotel Biba. The new West Palm Beach, Florida, property may be the nation’s first boutique motel, a stylish stay generating big buzz in a buzz-happy town. A block from the Intercoastal, the former 1940s-era motor lodge remains on the National Historic Register for its Bahamas Colonial architecture. But designer Barbara Hulanicki recast the interiors in the vibrant colors (think fuschia and wasabi) that she used in her ’60s fashion line Biba. Serene Asian gardens surround the property. But if it’s buzz you want, head to Biba Bar in the mirrored lobby for champagne, charcuterie, and chat. Rooms from $79. (561) 832-0094,
