Introduced in 1990, Patrón is a phenomenal success in an already successful category. Brand creator Martin Crowley reports that sales actually doubled last year alone. Revenues are being re-invested in the elaborate Hacienda del Patrón, a “tequila chateau” and visitor’s center in the town of Atotonilco El Alto, high in the mountains of Jalisco. The 80-acre estate will be surrounded with experimental agave fields. The outstanding Patrón Silver is spicy and forward in the nose with dry, peppery, leafy flavors. The brand’s signature Patrón 2000 margarita uses creamy Citronge Orange Liqueur and fresh-squeezed lemon (not lime!) juice.
