Last winter, 15 Olympic medals were won by athletes who chose Surefoot customized orthotics for their unmatched performance. But most of the Park City–based company’s customers are recreational skiers just as likely to go custom for comfort, warmth and reduced fatigue as for precise edge control. After nearly three decades as a leading retailer of custom ski boots, Surefoot recently introduced its biggest upgrade ever, the new Contoura X1 custom-foamed liner. Replacing the insulated liner that comes in off-the-rack boots, this one is molded around the skier’s feet, ankles and calves for perfect fit. Upgrades include a form-fitting tongue that transfers more energy — and thus ?control — to the ski, a gel heel pad to prevent soreness, and a toe design that adapts for narrow or wide feet. The precise fit maximizes blood circulation, keeping feet warmer, and the liners can retrofit existing boots or be packaged with new shells (Surefoot carries several leading brands). To optimize both comfort and ski performance, the liner ($395) must be coupled with a custom orthotic insole ($215), and both can be quickly made to order at any of the company’s three Park City shops or 21 other locations worldwide. www.surefoot.com
