Though fall’s officially been here for some time, in many parts of the United States you wouldn’t know it until right about now. Outside temperatures notwithstanding, November signals the beginning of the holiday season here, and this issue ushers it in with Anthony Dias Blue’s 3 Bottles wine column. Every year, Blue picks three bottles fit for a Thanksgiving feast, usually ones you wouldn’t necessarily think of immediately when planning the menu. This year, check out his selection of three award-winning red wines that he says will work wonderfully. Though two are in the special-occasion price range, you could certainly argue that there’s no more special occasion than a day on which we count our blessings. I’m looking forward to raising a glass and sampling his suggestions myself.

Elsewhere, we hail the changing of the seasons with "Too Cool," a roundup of the latest skis and snowboards. There’s something for everyone in writer Ben Hewitt’s feature, whether you’re a neophyte or a fanatic on the slopes. He also suggests the best snow spots in North America to take these new toys for a spin.

Sticking close to home, explore the vast range of offerings our national parks system boasts in Ken McAlpine’s story, “National Treasures,” a tour of 15 diverse parks from coast to coast. Then head north in “Go Now” to learn what’s new now in Vancouver.

But as usual, our stories branch beyond North American borders. From our Celebrated Weekend cover story on actor Colin Farrell's Dublin, to our Travel feature on Portugal wines, American Way spans the globe.
