Busy, Busy, Busy

Yipes. It’s been crazy around here! By the time you read this, almost half of 2007 will have passed, and we’ll be working on our August and September issues. Before I know it, we’ll have arrived at the holiday season — and I’ve gotten in only one trip to the beach so far this year! It was a lovely trip with friends to Sanibel. What a super place that is. Our days were filled with sun, water, shells, dolphins, fresh snook, wine, and lots of laughs. How oh how does the year go by so quickly?

It seems I’ve only just begun to enjoy the long, sunny days, and all of a sudden, June 21 (the longest day of the year) has come and gone, and the days start getting shorter and shorter.

Instead of sitting out on my patio with my neighbors and enjoying the warm, summer evenings and winding down from the long and torturous workday (Okay, I’m exaggerating. A bit.), I’ll be hibernating inside or running from one place to the next bundled up in a sweater.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s enjoy the season that’s upon us. In our upcoming July 15 issue, we’ll have loads of great ideas to help you plan your summer getaway. The entire American Way staff and a world of freelancers have been hard at work scouring the planet for information that will make your travels — whether for work or play — infinitely easier. It’s an issue you’re going to want to hold on to for the rest of the year.

And if you’re not flying between July 15 and 31, don’t worry — you’ll be able to find a lot of the info on our website, www.americanwaymag.com.

Another thing that’s been keeping us hopping is our sixth annual Road Warrior issue. Yep, as hard as it is to believe, it’s almost time to get that contest started. And, as in years past, you’ll need to tap into your creative side, as we have all sorts of fun and interesting requirements this year. So stay tuned, because we also have super prizes that you’re going to want a chance at winning.

We are also jumping on the environment bandwagon and working on a special green issue. We’ve only just hit the tip of the iceberg (every pun intended), and we’re finding there’s a lot of information out there. In fact, if we were really smart, we’d start a green magazine ourselves. It’s too bad I’m such a procrastinator.

Speaking of the special issues we’ve been working on, what do you think about them? So far you’ve seen one that focused on Asia and one that was all about music. Do you like that the issue focuses on a single topic? Or would you prefer that we give you issues like this one, full of a variety of stories?

And that brings me back from the future and firmly into the here and now. From the restaurants you must try whenever you’re in Boston to a wonderful historical adventure story to a cool place to go scuba diving — despite the fact that it’s located in a desert (I didn’t even realize you could dive out there, but I definitely intend to check it out for myself) — this issue has a number of great articles for you to enjoy as you wing your way to your next destination.

Talk to you next time!
