“That $70 is approximately how much it costs to provide one night of shelter to a mother and child,” says The Family Place executive director Paige Flink, whose organization introduced the shopping program in 1993. “The money that we make on the Partners Card directly benefits victims of family violence.”
By selling upward of 16,000 Partners Cards annually, organizers have generated $12 million for Dallas-area violence prevention, housing and counseling services over the past 20 years. In fact, the program has been so successful that it has spread to a number of cities. The American Cancer Society in Houston and Atlanta’s Camp Twin Lakes, as well as the SafeHaven of Tarrant County in Fort Worth, Texas, created similar fundraisers based on the Dallas model. Each group will offer its own discount card during the same 10-day period.
Purchase the $70 Dallas Partners Card at www.partnerscard.org until Oct. 19 or from participating retailers through Nov. 4.
