BEST OF THE BOYS

Nat King Cole
Night Lights (EMI)

When he died from lung cancer at age 46, this king of pop balladry left behind stacks of unreleased material. More than a dozen of those songs have been compiled here, most of which are making their CD debut. This 20-track collection highlights Cole’s milkshake-smooth voice and also his masterful piano playing, which often took a back seat to his vocal talent. Nice to see the two melt so well together again. He’s truly unforgettable.

INXS
Shine Like It Does (1979-1997):
The INXS Anthology (Rhino)

Even though this Australian rock band has hired a new singer, the group will be forever known for its past glories with vocalist Michael Hutchence, such as “What You Need” and “Never Tear Us Apart.” You’ll find those hits on this two-CD collection, along with B-sides that, unlike most other shelved songs you weren’t meant to hear, are just as good as those you did.
