Though Scottsdale, Ariz., never hits arctic temps, there’s still a way to get wintry this holiday season: Chill, the city’s first and only hybrid ice-skating rink.

Made from a recyclable polymer compound that doesn’t require electricity to run, the W Scottsdale’s 1,600-square-foot, eco-friendly rink features a weekly ice-skating performance and is open for public use through Jan. 6, 2013. Spend your evenings practicing spirals and twizzles in a seasonal wonderland and sipping spiked beverages at the rinkside bar (try the Warm Up, a blend of banana liqueur, hot cocoa and strawberry milk). The hotel’s corresponding Chill Out package includes accommodations for two and unlimited skate rentals (from $239, www.wscottsdalehotel.com).

If you can tear yourself from the ice, the Outlets at Anthem in nearby Phoenix is home to America’s tallest fresh-cut Christmas tree — a 110-foot white fir decorated with 3 miles of LED lights and 6,000-plus ornaments.
