Home of improvisational comedy and virtual Saturday Night Live talent feeder, The Second City has produced alumni ranging from John Belushi and Bill Murray to Tina Fey and Stephen Colbert — all funny, none of them stand-ups. Now the Chicago-based company is expanding into traditional solo work with the Up Comedy Club, the third stage at its Old Town campus.

During prime time — weekend evenings — the 285-seat club hosts local and touring headliners like Rhys Darby from HBO’s Flight of the Conchords and Mitch Fatel from the late-night TV circuit. Weeknight and matinee slots feature a new repertoire of sketch-comedy shows devoted to local politics and losing sports teams (The Second City’s History of Chicago), relationships, social networking (Sex, Love & The Second City ) and everything under the sun (The Second City’s Improv All-Stars). Immersing audiences in all the fat and sass synonymous with Chicago, Up also serves deep-dish pizza. (312) 662-4562, www.upcomedyclub.com
