5 Argentina Must-Do’s
In a country like Argentina, there are definite must-do’s on your trip. Some of the most iconic activities center on where to learn to dance the tango, taste the best wines, overdose on juicy beef, get your soccer kicks or shop for the best leather goods.

1 take a tango lesson: For under $25 a person, take group tango lessons at Escuela Argentina de Tango inside the Galerías Pacífico shopping mall (011-54-11-4312-4990, www.eatango.org). Or go for private group lessons with Helen Halldórsdóttir, an Iceland native nicknamed La Vikinga whose studio has a beautiful turn-of-the-last-century parquet floor (011-54-11-4383-6229, www.lavikinga.eu). Stock up on tango clothing at Tango Moda, run by Jorge Arias (011-54-11-4300-3293, www.tangomoda.com.ar).

2 Go on a wine safari: Argentina has several regions where these delicious grape libations are produced. The best known is Mendoza in the shadow of the Andes, where Malbec takes center stage. Book a wine-tasting adventure with Trout & Wine Tours, run by Irishman Charlie O’Malley — who’s also publisher of Argentina’s English-language wine magazine Wine Republic — and explore several wineries with an expert guide (011-54-261-425-5613, www.troutandwine.com).

3 Skimp on the veggies: When dining in Argentina, make room for the beef that is known around the world. You’ll find thick, juicy slabs at great prices in a family-run atmosphere at decades-old El Obrero in the La Boca neighborhood of Buenos Aires (011-54-11-4362-9912, www.bodegonelobrero.com.ar).

4 See a soccer game: Argentina’s favorite sport is soccer, locally known as fútbol. In-season, catch a game in legendary Diego Maradona’s home stadium, La Bombonera (Estadio Alberto J. Armando), home of the Boca Juniors (011-54-11-4309-4700, www.bocajuniors.com.ar). The enthusiastic spectators put on a show as engaging as the athletes on the field. Even out of season, visit the stadium’s Boca Juniors museum, Museo de la Pasión Boquense (www.museoboquense.com).

5 Shop for leather: In a country where beef is king, leather is the beautiful byproduct. Leather stores abound on Calle Florida, the pedestrianized shopping street in downtown, or head to the neighborhood of Villa Crespo’s leather district on Calle Murillo, where the store Murillo 666 is one of the largest outlets
(011-54-11-4856-4501, www.murillo666.com.ar).
