Color trends aren’t just for the fashion world. Try taking a cue from color authority Pantone’s top 10 colors for spring 2014 to freshen up your home decor. Accessorizing with bold accents around your home is one of this spring’s freshest looks, and Pantone’s hero colors — Radiant Orchid, Dazzling Blue, Freesia (bright yellow), Celosia Orange and Cayenne (vivid coral) — are just the hues to bring this trend to life. While the idea of four Radiant Orchid walls might give some people pause, the same shade used as an accent via, say, a velvet chair is both elegant and fun. To fully execute this particular method of decorating, rely on pastels and neutrals for large-scale areas like walls and carpets, and then punch up the volume in your accessories, furnishings and art. For the perfect pairing of colors, try Radiant Orchid accents with shades of pale blue and gold; Freesia pops against muted greens (think mint) and yellows; and Dazzling Blue beautifully complements neutrals from white to tan. If you’re color-shy, start with one pop of color per room and choose smaller, less-expensive pieces until you’re certain you love the choices you’ve made. Once you’re ready to commit to color, you can add additional bold accents and even go for investment pieces. For the less timid, two accent colors per room create quite the impression: Dazzling Blue and Radiant Orchid look striking together, and the pairing of Cayenne and Celosia Orange creates an eye-pleasing monochromatic effect.
