Bob and Cortney Novogratz are back. The self-taught home-design gurus first came to our attention with their cool decor book, Downtown Chic, which American Way wrote about in May 2009. Then, they (along with their seven children) went and got a show on Bravo, 9 by Design, followed by a show on HGTV, Home by Novogratz. Now, the couple are making their magic available to the masses with their new Novogratz Home Collection. The line includes rugs, bedding, pillows, decorative home accessories and 29 colors of paint. “It’s cool design for families. It’s all about color — very poppy, vibrant and young,” Bob Novogratz says.
The line’s vintage-meets-modern aesthetic has the feel of high design while remaining on a budget. Besides its bright colors, other influences in the collection come from the runway and Hollywood. “We’re seeing a lot from the 1960s in fashion and film. Mad Men may have started this. There’s definitely a Pucci vibe out there [for home design],” Novogratz explains.
His favorite piece from the line, though? “A rug that says ‘family’ on it. It’s not in your face, but if you back away, you can see it. Everyone goes crazy for it.” Of course, given that the whole family — including the children — had a hand in choosing the elements of the collection, it’s only appropriate. “Two or three of them love design and sit in our meetings,” Novogratz says. “Our office is in our house, and we like it like that.” The Novogratz Home Collection is currently available at www.thenovogratz.com and will be in select stores nationwide in spring 2012. Home by Novogratz airs on Saturdays through Oct. 8.
