This month marks the beginning of the party for venerable retailer Bergdorf Goodman, which is celebrating its 111th anniversary this year. Leading the revelry charge is Sara James Mnookin and her book Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf Goodman (HarperCollins, $35). The tome features legendary tales about Yoko Ono, Grace Kelly, Aretha Franklin, Greta Garbo and plenty more of the world’s most famous women. Readers can expect to learn juicy, behind-the-scenes tidbits on everything from celebrity shopping idiosyncrasies to the fact that Jacqueline Kennedy often dined in a private fitting room because, while she loved lunching at the famous store’s restaurant, she was too famous to do so peacefully. In addition to the book, there will also be numerous galas, and more than 100 fashion designers have created an exclusive, limited-edition collection of accessories, jewelry, cosmetics and home items to commemorate the store’s special milestone.
