Los Angeles beauty addicts now have another outlet to indulge their youth-chasing habits. Malin + Goetz, a New York–based skin-care brand with a cult following, recently opened their first West Coast store, in L.A. Its location in Hancock Park might surprise some, but given the company, it’s not that out of character. “We didn’t want to be in a mall. Our brand was built on the idea of community and being part of a social fabric,” explains co-founder Andrew Goetz. “It’s like Main Street USA here, with a lot of mom-and-pop stores, plus a haberdashery, a vegan bakery and a 100-year-old barbershop. It’s truly a neighborhood.”
The new 950-square-foot apothecary features floor-to-ceiling open shelving stocked with the complete line of Malin + Goetz products, merchandised by color — blue for face products, green for body and red for hair. The modern space and the products’ packaging is offset by a centuries-old antique table (sourced from Hudson, N.Y.) originally used as a counter in an old haberdashery. On it, placed under a David Weeks light installation, are housed all the testers that beauty addicts will no doubt delight in playing with, including the perennial favorite Vitamin E Face Moisturizer, as well as new introductions like the Replenishing Face Cream.
