In the past, if you happened to be one of the nearly 2 million Americans who suffered from gluten intolerance, whenever the NFL season got under way and the Major League Baseball postseason heated up, you either had to forgo a good brew on game day or suffer the consequences. But now, thanks to a variety of (tasty) gluten-free options, you can be cracking open an ice-cold beer with your pals in no time. Here are three of our favorites:
A good everyday beer, Bard’s Tale includes a proprietary sorghum malt in its brewing process, which results in the familiar flavor and aroma. Each cap comes with a topic starter, such as, “Should the slide whistle be outlawed?” You might wait until after the game to discuss.
Touted as the only Belgium-brewed and bottle-conditioned line of gluten-free beers, Green’s began exporting its beers to the U.S. in 2007. Discovery Amber Ale, Endeavour Dubbel Ale and Quest Tripel Ale are among the top sellers. Keep in mind that the latter pairs well with beef.
New Planet Beer began distributing its beers from the back of a pickup in the Boulder, Colo., area in 2009. By the end of this year, the company plans to have its Tread Lightly Ale, 3R Raspberry Ale and Off Grid Pale Ale offerings available in 25 states. A portion of the proceeds goes toward environmental efforts. Visit Website
