Finding a healthy meal while you’re on the go can be a daunting task, especially when you’re sitting around the airport, where the choices often vary from cheeseburgers to fried-chicken sandwiches. But having a health expert leaning over your shoulder can make the task not only fun but also incredibly tasty. We scoured airport food courts with Kim Barnouin, co-author of the best-selling Skinny B**ch and author of the new and fantastic Skinny B**ch: Ultimate Everyday Cookbook (Running Press, $30), and she showed us foods that are good for the taste buds and the waistline.

Starbucks
Starbucks Perfect Oatmeal. “It’s made with whole-grain oats, is low-fat, and contains 4 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein. It’s a healthy, filling breakfast.”

Uno Chicago Grill
Steamed Seasonal Veggies and Whole-Grain Brown Rice. “I travel a lot, and when I’m flying, I like to eat light meals that will still fill me up. This restaurant gains brownie points because it offers whole-grain brown rice.”

Smoothie King
“Their Pomegranate Punch contains ultrahealthy pomegranate juice, bananas, blueberries, apple juice and soy protein; I leave out the turbinado sugar, which adds calories. [The punch] is the winning drink over sodas.”

Sbarro
“I have eaten many a meal at this restaurant chain. They have about five great salads to choose from, but my favorite is their tomato-and-cucumber salad with olive oil and vinegar. No fat-filled, creamy dressings for me.”

Au Bon Pain
“I love this place. They have quite a few healthy, tasty options. My fave is the French Moroccan tomato-lentil soup. It contains a good dose of fiber and protein from the lentils and beans, while the garlic and curry powder add flavor and health benefits.”

Subway
“Their Veggie Delite on Italian bread is my go-to sandwich.”

Wolfgang Puck Express
“I love Italian food, and their angel-hair pasta with fresh tomato, basil and garlic is one of my favorite dishes. It’s simple, filling and flavorful.”

California Pizza Kitchen
Grilled Vegetable Salad with Thai Peanut dressing: “The dressing really adds a boost of flavor to this salad. It’s light and tasty.”
